No special treatment awaits Arnold Padilla at custodial center —PNP

Arnold Padilla will not be treated with kid gloves once he is detained in the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center, the PNP said Monday.

Padilla last month hit the headlines after he and his companions figured in a road altercation in which barangay traffic enforcers were allegedly physically and verbally abused.

However, a raid on his house inside Magallanes Village yielded unlicensed guns and two grenades.

“We enforce the law without fear or favor. A suspect is a suspect. There is no high and mighty [suspect],” PNP spokesman Senior Superintendent Benigno Durana said at a news conference.

Padilla was discharged from St. Luke's Medical Center in Bonifacio Global City on Sunday but his blood pressure apparently shot up again, prompting the police to bring him to Philippine National Police General Hospital.

Durana said that Padilla's admission at the PNP hospital would not be long since he did not have a grave illness.

“We want to ensure that we can secure him properly and he does not enjoy the comfort of a top notch hospital,” Durana said.

“Our hospital is capable of monitoring blood pressure so that [ailment] should not be a problem. He will be committed to the PNP Custodial Center,” he added.

Padilla was brought to the PNP's Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City early Tuesday morning.

Revilla selfie

In June, the PNP Custodial Center grabbed headlines after one of its high profile detainees, former Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr., posted a selfie on his Facebook page while inside his detention cell.

Mobile phones and other electronic gadgets are supposed to be banned inside the PNP Custodial Center. Another high-profile PNP Custodial Center detainee, Sen. Leila de Lima, sends her statements and other correspondence thru handwritten letters.

Revilla is facing a P220 million plunder charge in connection with his alleged misuse of the lawmakers' Priority Development Assistance Fund, a discretionary fund of lawmakers which used to be provided under the national budget to address the needs of the lawmakers' respective constituents.

De Lima, on the other hand, is facing drug-related charges. —NB, GMA News
