PDEA seizes P27-M worth of shabu hidden in cans of tomato sauce

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) seized P27 million worth of suspected shabu hidden inside tomato sauce cans.

According to a report by Katrina Son on GMA's Saksi on Wednesday, the supposed illegal drugs weighing around four kilograms were packed in two boxes that were delivered to a resident in Barangay San Roque in Navotas City.

The package came from Las Vegas City in Nevada, USA.

"After naming ma-intercept ang illegal drugs sa airport, nag-conduct kami ng controlled delivery para tumuloy-tuloy ang items doon sa consignee," PDEA Central Luzon Regional Director Atty. Gil Pabilona said.

It was received by Edna Valenzuela who insisted that she didn't know that the package contains shabu.

She said that a friend instructed her to just receive the delivery and promised that she will receive monetary compensation for doing so.

Valenzuela and her 22-year-old daughter are under the custody of the authorities.

"Nakaalalay lang po ako sa Mama ko kasi nga po hindi naman siya ganung ka-ano sa mga pirma-pirma," the daughter said.

PDEA said a follow-up operation will be conducted to track down the source of the illegal drugs. — Dona Magsino/BAP, GMA News
