Valenzuela patient tests negative for meningo

The Valenzuela City government on Thursday announced that the suspected meningococcemia case at the Valenzuela City Emergency Hospital was tested negative for the disease.

“Negatibo ang resulta ng isinagawang pagsusuri kaugnay ng hinihinalang kaso ng meningococcemia sa Valenzuela City Emergency Hospital (VCEH),” the city said via Twitter.

According to the VCEH, the patient was admitted to the hospital after she showed symptoms of meningococcemia such as fever, vomiting and rashes. Hospital officials had to close the emergency room for 12 hours for disinfection.

“Ang mode of transmission nito ay by direct contact or by aerial droplet,” Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said in an interview on News To Go.

Two meningococcemia cases were reported in Pateros and Navotas and both have already been cured, according to the DOH, stressing that there is no outbreak of meningococcemia.

Duque said an average of 200 cases of meningococcemia are reported every year. "Ito ay nangyayari kada taon. Meron tayong reported meningococcemia for about more than 200," he said.

Meanwhile, Duque advised the public to live a healthy lifestyle to avoid contacting the disease. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
