2 of 3 victims of shooting incident on EDSA died —police

Two of the three people earlier reported hurt in the shooting incident on EDSA on Sunday afternoon died in the hospital over an hour after they were attacked by armed men riding tandem on a motorbike, a police official said.

Mandaluyong City Police's Senior Superintendent Moises Villaceran Jr. told Sam Nielsen of Super Radyo dzBB that two of the three victims died at the VRP Medical Center along EDSA,  near the scene of the incident.

"Balita namin patay na ang dalawang lalaki at naka-survive ang babae na biktima," Villaceran said.

Earlier, Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) personnel who were at the site said the incident occurred at 3:23 p.m., involving passengers of a white Toyota Hi-Ace van (NOS 361).

An earlier report identified the wounded as Jose Luis Yulo, 62; Esmeralda Ignacio, 38, from Las Piñas City; and Nomer Santos, 51, the van owner.

An initial police investigation showed that armed men riding tandem on a black motorcycle pumped bullets at the passenger side of the van.

Authorities are still investigating the attack.

Nielsen said that the incident caused heavy traffic in the area as two inner lanes of the EDSA southbound near crime scene have been occupied. —with Amita Legaspi/LBG, GMA News
