Motorcycle riders protest bigger license plates

Around 1,000 bikers held a rally at the People Power Monument on Saturday to protest the required bigger license plates for motorcycles.

According to a report in GMA News TV's Balitanghali Weekend on Sunday, the Motorcycle Rights Organization said that installment of bigger license plates on motorcycles may compromise road safety for both the riders and pedestrians.

The group explained that these may cause riders to lose their balance while driving.

President Rodrigo Duterte recently signed a law mandating the issuance of bigger license plates for motorcycles in order to prevent the use of the vehicles in crimes.

The law mandates the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to issue bigger, readable and color-coded license plates to every motorcycle in the country. The plate numbers should be big enough to be readable from a distance of at least 15 meters from the motorcycle. — Dona Magsino/BM, GMA News
