29 passengers hurt as LRT2 trains collide in QC

At least 29 passengers were hurt when a Light Rail Transit 2 train hit another LRT train near its Anonas Station in Quezon City.

A report on Super Radyo dzBB said the incident happened when a moving train hit another train that was parked on the eastbound lane between the Anonas and Araneta Center Cubao Station.

LRT2 public relations head Lyn Paragas-Janeo was quoted as saying 29 passengers were hurt and rushed to nearby hospitals.

"I think we are not the only last one in the train. Tumakbo yung train bigla na lang kami nakarinig ng pagsabog at lahat kami nagtalsikan lahat," said Ahya Lopez, a passenger interviewed by Super Radyo dzBB.

She said they were not informed of what was going on, adding train authorities probably did not want the passengers to panic. 

When she got out, she said she found that the "explosion" seemed to have happened at the part connecting two coaches.

LRT's Janeo, however, clarified they have yet to confirm if an explosion indeed happened, saying what the passengers probably heard was the sound of the collision and not an explosion. — MDM, GMA News
