LRT2 ops back to normal after trains collision

Operations of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 2 returned to normal before noon on Sunday after two of its trains collided on Saturday night.

Normal operations of the LRT2 resumed at 10:47 a.m., according to a report by Isa Avendaño-Umali of Super Radyo dzBB.

The go signal to resume operations was given after a safety clearance was issued for the LRT2 trains, and after clearing, mopping up operations, and safety checks were performed.

Light Rail Transit Authority spokesperson Atty. Hernando Cabrera said only five trains will be deployed on Sunday, but the number may be increased on Monday.

LRTA apologized to the passengers who were injured on Saturday night as well as the affected passengers who had to find other transportation means while the LRT2 operations were halted.

Thirty-four passengers were hurt after a "dead" train — a train being fixed and placed on the emergency pocket track — strayed by itself and went onto the track being used by an incoming train from the Cubao Station. The trains collided near the Anonas Station.

The LRTA said it will pay for the medical treatment of the injured passengers.

Cabrera said a fact-finding committee will investigate the incident. —KG, GMA News
