Isko Moreno orders removal of politicians' names from Manila schools

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Tuesday directed the Manila City School Board to remove the names of politicians, including his, from all public schools in the city.

“Pinatatanggal ko ultimo pangalan ko,” Moreno said in a press conference.

The newly installed mayor also revealed plans to include healthcare facilities in the “epal ban.” “Bawal ang epal. Tigilan na natin yan,” he said.

Moreno observed that the names of some politicians were even welded on steel in the school buildings.

“As if you’re immortalizing yourself, as if it is your money. It is not your money. Pera yan ng taumbayan,” he said.

“Mas magandang magkusa na rin yung iba,” Morneo added.

Moreno also ordered the school board to install solar panels and rainwater catchers in schools.

“We are encouraging the board to come up with an environmental approach to harness renewable energy,” he said.

The mayor also plans to implement a Nutribun program for kinder and grade school students, most probably starting next year. —KBK, GMA News
