Falling crane pulley kills construction worker

A 23-year old construction worker was killed in Sampaloc, Maynila after a steel tower crane pulley fell on him, Super Radyo dzBB's Luisito Santos reported on Sunday.

The victim was clearing the construction site of debris at around 11 a.m. when the pulley suddenly fell from the 30th floor of the University Home Building in Piy Margal Street.

Two officials from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) rushed to the construction site, but they were barred from entering the area.

Labor Assistant Secretary Joji Aragon said that the construction site's contractor would be held liable if there were any violations committed.

The victim's remains, meanwhile, were brought to the Archangel Funeral Homes for autopsy.
