Mayor Isko signs ordinance giving tax amnesty for businesses, property owners

Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso has signed Ordinance No. 8566, which grants "general amnesty on all delinquent business taxes, real property taxes, regulatory fees and other service charges."

During the signing at the Manila City Hall on Wednesday, Moreno stressed that many tax payers in Manila have experienced hardships in paying basic taxes, fees and charges.

"Isa sa mga inirereklamo ng mga taga-lungsod ng Maynila ang mataas na amilyar. At dahil doon ay nagkaroon, ayon sa aming data, maraming mga kababayan natin, hindi nakababayad ng amilyar," the mayor said.

A copy of the ordinance was posted on the Manila Public Information Office's twitter page.

Moreno had earlier promised to also lower the income tax if he was to be elected mayor of Manila.

"We made a commitment that we were going to lower the real property tax. It's now pending before our city legal to address it," Moreno said on Wednesday.

"And hindi lang namin gustong i-lower. We in the city government...want to give you ease or a chance to recover, all citizens of manila, not to pay anymore penalties, surcharges and interests," he added. — MDM, GMA News
