Public wifi ISKONek renamed MNLKonek after netizens react

The city government of Manila has renamed its two-day old public wifi service from ISKOnek to MNLKonek.

Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Wednesday night led the launch of a new WiFi Kiosk then dubbed "ISKOnek” at the Andres Bonifacio Monument.

Park-goers may use the kiosk for landline calls, free WiFi connection, social networking and video calls, among others.

"ISKOnek is the choice of Eastern Communications on how to brand the WiFi kiosk," Manila Public Information Office chief Julius Leonen said.

"After receiving suggestions from netizens, we called the attention of the private company to change it," he added.

Leonen said the Manila City government was willing to listen to the suggestions of its constituents "no matter how harsh their comments are on social media."

"We respect the opinions of netizens, of our constituents. We take their responses positively, because that is part of democracy," Leonen said. —NB, GMA News
