Mayor bans fishing in Marikina River after pigs float down waterway

Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro on Friday banned fishing in the Marikina River after dozens of the dead pigs floated down the water way the day before.

The city government is concerned that the river has been contaminated and fish caught in it could affect the health of residents.

Marikina authorities have been coordinating with the local governments of nearby areas in Rizal to determine from where the carcasses came.

These include San Mateo, Rodriguez, Cogeo, Antipolo and Teresa.

The dead pigs floated amid the African swine fever scare. —NB, GMA News
