2 trapped as Sogo building in Malate collapses


At least two people were believed trapped after a building of Hotel Sogo in Malate, Manila collapsed on Monday morning.

According to a report by Isa Avendaño-Umali on Dobol B sa News TV, the building was no longer operational and is undergoing demolition when the incident happened at around 9:30 a.m.

Some victims sustained minor injuries and rescue operations were ongoing as of posting time.

Authorities have yet to determine how many were hurt in the collapse.

In a follow-up report, authorities identified the trapped persons as Jerome Fabello and Melo Izon. Another man, identified as Edson Izon, was also brought to the hospital.

The Manila Public Information Office said that Ospital ng Maynila was already alerted to accommodate those injured.

 

Mabini Street has been closed to motorists due to the incident.

Mayor Isko Moreno also ordered the temporary closure of the adjacent building in Adriatico Street. —Dona Magsino/KBK, GMA News
