Biazon calls on Skyway management to work faster on SLEx amid traffic woes

Muntinlupa Representative Ruffy Biazon on Monday called on Skyway management for more efficient and faster construction on South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) amid the heavy traffic condition.

“Tanggap naman natin na kailangan gawin ‘yung proyekto … Syempre ang panawagan natin sa Skyway Management ay ‘yung more efficient at mabilis na trabaho,” Biazon said in an interview on GMA News’ Unang Balita.

“Baka pwede pa natin silang i-pressure to work faster. Pwede pa nilang doblehin ang mga gumagawa. Tapos ‘yung additional deployment ng traffic management,” he added.

The South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) northbound lane has been experiencing congested traffic due to the construction to extend the Skyway under the Stage 3 Project.

“Ang unique kasi na situation sa amin, ‘yung kaisa-isa namin na main road, na tumatagos sa mga barangay ng Muntinlupa, nagiging alternate route ng mga nata-traffic sa SLEx,” Biazon said.

“So ang nangyayari, ang main national road namin na ‘yon ay nababara na rin,” he added.

The traffic situation has affected business and commerce in Muntinlupa, Biazon said.

Biazon also demanded a traffic management plan from the Skyway management to address the “chain reaction” of traffic caused by the construction.

“‘Yung kanilang traffic management plan, gusto nating makita. Dahil ‘yung effects ngayon ay kumakalat. ‘Yung dating hindi nata-traffic, ngayon nata-traffic dahil dyan,” he said.

Biazon and Skyway management are set to meet this Friday to discuss about the traffic problem due to the extension project.

SMC Tollways, a unit of San Miguel Corp., operates both the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and the Metro Manila Skyway.

Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) spokesperson Julius Corpus said the project is expected to finish in December 2020. —Joviland Rita/VDS, GMA News
