P2.5B worth of shabu seized in Makati raid; Chinese suspect nabbed

Some P2.522 billion worth of suspected shabu was seized during an anti-illegal drugs operation in Makati City, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Wednesday.

Information from PNP spokesman Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac said the buy-bust operation on Tuesday night along Banoyo Street in Barangay San Antonio also resulted in the arrest of a Chinese national identified as Liu Chao.

Banac said more or less 371 kilograms of suspected shabu were seized by operatives from the PNP Drug Enforcement Group.

Police are conducting follow-up operation to determine the scope of the suspect’s network in the illegal drug trade.

Meanwhile, PNP officer-in-charge Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa hailed the policemen who had conducted the raid and seized the illegal drugs.

In a separate radio interview, Gamboa said police are probing how the illegal drugs were shipped into the country.

"We have not really found out kung paano nakapasok kasi 'yung iba nga nakalagay pa sa mga malalaking maleta. We are still trying to find out kung paano ito nakarating diyan sa apartment diyan sa Makati," Gamboa said.

"The way it was packed talagang galing pa sa biyahe at inimpake siya in such a way na parang ibang produkto," Gamboa added. — with Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK/RSJ, GMA News
