MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia, during a press briefing, assured that sewerage declogging is regularly conducted to prevent obstruction of drainage in the capital region.

"Pagdating sa mga sewerage natin, ang sabi ko nga summer pa lang pinaghahandaan na 'yan, araw-araw naman 'yan. Hindi tayo nagpapahinga diyan. May darating mang bagyo o wala laging nalilinis 'yan ng ating team sa flood control," he said.

All the 61 pumping stations of the MMDA for flood control are also working, he added.

Garcia, however, reminded the public to dispose their garbage properly because otherwise these will end up hampering the operations in the pumping stations.

"Thirty minutes to one hour dapat wala nang baha pero inaabot ng four to six hours kasi we need to stop the operations dahil mapupuno ng basura ang mga pump," Garcia said.

He further added that the MMDA is in close coordination with the local government units should they need assistance.

The Philippine Coast Guard-NCR also deployed its personnel to roam over the waters from Baseco to Malabon to ensure public safety.

Sailing, fishing, dragon boat practices, and other recreational activities in the open water are also suspended because Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 was raised over Metro Manila, according to the PCG. —KG, GMA News
