Doctor in viral road rage video presents self at LTO

The doctor caught on video screaming at another driver attended a hearing at the Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Thursday after he was issued a show cause order by the agency.

According to a report by Cecille Villarosa on 24 Oras, Tomas Mendez is facing an administrative case and his driver's license may be suspended or revoked.

Though Mendez and his lawyer declined to comment after the hearing, the hearing officer of LTO said he cooperated and gave a sworn statement.

"He's very cooperative, he's very cooperative, in fairness to him. Our director, Attorney Clarence Guinto, asked for some clarificatory question and he voluntarily answered them," Jay-R Oabel said.

Paredes also went to the agency to give his own testimony.

"Naitanong ko nga sana sa kanya kanina kung bakit niya nasabi sa akin na hindi pa ako naliligo, maduming madumi ako. Nilalait niya ako [...] Ang nais ko lang naman sana dito yung mabigyan ng, ano yan, tamang parusa kung ano ang dapat sa kanya," Paredes said.

LTO said its Intelligence and Investigation Division will study the answers of Mendez, Paredes' testimony, as well as the viral video before submitting a recommendation to LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante.

Mendez was recorded on video screaming and cursing at Paredes for not allowing him to change lanes.

According to Paredes, the doctor also threw something at them, prompting him to follow the other driver until they arrived at a gas station.

After a brief confrontation, Paredes headed to the Makati City Police to file criminal charges against Mendez.

Paredes will also be filing a separate complaint to the Professional Regulation Commission due to Mendez' profession as a doctor. —Joahna Lei Casilao/NB, GMA News
