Student dies, 6 others injured in Makati accident


One of the seven students who were hit by a jeepney in Makati City on Wednesday evening has died, according to a Saksi report from Jamie Santos.

Out of the six students who were injured, five were conscious. The victims were brought to the Makati Medical Center and Ospital ng Makati.

Based on a CCTV footage, the students were crossing a pedestrian lane on Wednesday evening with the help of a traffic enforcer when a speeding jeep hit the group.

The jeep kept going even when the traffic light was red.

The impact was so strong that some students who were hit by the jeepney wer thrown a few meters. Others ended up beneath the vehicle.

"Nagcounter po itong jeep. Nakatawid na ung mga bata dito. Bigla pong humarurot itong jeep. Galing Makati Avenue naka sign na po kami mg stop biglang harurot dito. Nasagasaan na ung mga bata na nakatawid na sa pedestrian," said Niko Delos Santos, one of the witnesses.

According to the Makati Traffic Bureau, the jeepney driver Rizaldy Samparong, said he lost control of the wheel.
