No social distancing as commuters wait for ride

The first day of the workweek after Metro Manila was placed under community quarantine to prevent the further spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) proved to be a challenge to many commuters.

As seen in these YouScoop photos, hordes of workers could barely observe "social distancing" as they wait to get a ride to their places of employment. Others are seen walking to their destination as early as 6 a.m. in Commonweath Avenue and Cubao, both in Quezon City.

The government ordered public utility buses and jeepneys to practice social distancing in their vehicles and not to cram passengers inside.

The Department of Transportation said public utility jeepneys are no longer allowed to have more than half of their regular capacity, including the driver, while public utility buses are only allowed to carry 25 passengers or less, including the driver and conductor.

Passengers inside these public transportation are required to be one seat apart.

Authorities also limited the entry of provincial vehicles in Metro Manila. --AOL/KBK, GMA News
