Police ready to face charges over 'storming' incident in Taguig condo

Police are ready to face charges once the management of the Pacific Plaza Towers (PPT) in Taguig City decides to take legal action against cops who stormed a condominium compound over the weekend.

"Sige lang po. Ganyan talaga ang role ng pulis, sasagutin po natin 'yan... pero ang sabi nga ng chief of police diyan titingnan din natin kung mayroon din bang pagkakataon na hindi naging cooperative ang management o property manager diyan," Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar, commander of Joint Task Force COVID Shield, said in an Unang Balita interview on Tuesday.

Eleazar defended the cops' action and insisted that the latter went into the condominium after obtaining reports that there were residents who were supposedly not practicing social distancing in the area.

He said it was the local government of Taguig City that asked the police to go check the condominium.

"The city government mismo ang nagsabi sa ating pulis na puntahan 'yun at mayroong report na mayroon ngang ganon dahil siguro tenant na rin ang nakakapansin,” Eleazar said.

The high-ranking police official noted there was coordination before authorities had entered the compound.

"May coordination po... Alam niyo po ang pulis natin, tingin niyo ba pupunta 'yan sa condo para maghanap ng sisitahin? Eh ang daming pupuntahan... you can just imagine the frustration of the police,” Eleazar said.

"Kaya po may mga pulis diyan dahil may mga nagreport na mayroong nagba-violate doon, kaya nga noong pumunta ang mga pulis doon, tinitingnan 'yung coordination sa property manager," he added.

Last Sunday, armed cops entered the compound of a private high-end condominium and threatened to arrest residents for allegedly violating the rules of the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine.

Residents said the incident sowed fear among adults and children residing in the condominium.
