Tondo 1 to be placed under hard lockdown this weekend

The Manila government will impose a hard lockdown in Tondo District 1 over the weekend, GMA News’ Jonathan Andal reported on Unang Balita Wednesday.

Tondo District 1 is composed of 136 barangays with a population of around half a million.

The television report said half of Divisoria is included in the hard lockdown but the night market will be exempted to allow the unhampered flow of goods and agricultural products.

The International Container Port will also remain open as well as major roads such as Road 10 but controlled checkpoints will be set up.

Just like in Sampaloc, the hard lockdown will last for 48 hours and quarantine pass will be cancelled. There will also be mass testing.

Mayor Isko Moreno assured the residents that food packs will be distributed before the start of the hard lockdown.

“Don’t hurry, don’t rush sa mga palengke o groceries, hindi naman namin kayo bibiglain,” he said.

Tondo placed second after Sampaloc with the most number of coronavirus cases 2019 (COVID-19) cases, with 81 patients, as of Tuesday. The area also placed second with the most number of enhanced community quarantine violators.

These prompted the local government to implement the same strict measure in the area.

The city government is also planning to place Tondo District 2, Sta. Cruz, and San Andres under hard lockdown, the report said.—AOL, GMA News
