Eastwood guard faces charges for allegedly assaulting Grab rider

After being badly injured on his right eye, a Grab delivery rider on Friday could not help but express his frustration and disappointment after being allegedly assaulted by an Eastwood security guard.

"Masamang-masama 'yung loob ko kasi naghahanap buhay ako. Talagang buti nga, paano kung baril 'yung hawak niya," deliveryman Romer Bacani said in Marisol Abdurahman's Friday report on 24 Oras.

While on a delivery run in the area, Bacani said he tried to plead with an Eastwood guard to let him use a closed street.

"Pinakiusapan ko po 'yung guard na 'yon na baka puwede ko lakarin, iwan ko po 'yung motor ko. Since 200-meter away na lang po, pinakita ko po sa Waze. Tapos po nung ipa-park ko na, umawat 'yung isang guard na sabi baka ma-tow," Bacani said.

According to him, the said guard refused to let him pass.

"Sabi niya, 'umikot kayo, matitigas ulo niyo, ayaw niyo sumunod talaga. Syempre may booking kami. May-time kami, 'di ba?" the driver said.

This led to an argument that escalated until the pair started raising their voices. At one point, the guard pushed Bacani while the latter was on his motorcycle.

"Sumalag ako kasi tutumba ko, 'tas sabi ko, 'Bakit nanakit ka?' Sinapak na niya po ako, bumagsak na po ako," Bacani said.

The guard, Julius Canai, declined to speak on camera, but explained that their argument stemmed from Bacani parking on a pedestrian lane.

According to Canai, the argument had escalated until he and the motorcyclist started yelling expletives at each other. This led to Canai attacking Bacani, who he characterized as being exceedingly arrogant.

Bacani reported the matter to the local police station, and Canai now faced a serious physical injury charge. — Joahna Lei Casilao/DVM, GMA News
