MMDA ready to implement guidelines once NCR shfits to GCQ - spokesperson

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday said it is already prepared should President Rodrigo Duterte or the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) decide to put Metro Manila under general community quarantine (GCQ) after May 15.

At the Laging Handa press briefing, MMDA spokesperson Celine Pialago said the agency will wait on the guidelines of the IATF as they serve as force multipliers of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) on checkpoints.

The MMDA will also wait on the Department of Transportation (DOTr) guidelines regarding the capacity of public and private vehicles.

"Handa po ang MMDA na ipataw ang parusa base sa magiging guidelines na ilalabas once na ma-shift sa GCQ ang Metro Manila," Pialago said.

"Puwede rin po ang ating mga enforcers na mag-implement po ng polisiya once na tayo ay nasa ilalim na sa GCQ," she added.

The MMDA and the PNP-HPG went full force last month after a large volume of vehicles continued to travel along EDSA amid the enhanced community quarantine.

Drivers of non-essential vehicles or those who had no business to travel were ticketed and had their licenses confiscated by authorities. — RSJ, GMA News
