Overnight rains make commuting for workers under GCQ more difficult


 

Overnight rains made worse the situation of commuters who needed to travel to work amid the limited public transport under the general community quarantine on Thursday morning.

According to reports on GMA News’ Unang Balita, some commuters walked and traveled by their bicycle for more than an hour in the middle of the downpour just to go to work.

In a report by Darlene Cay, commuters appealed for the return of public transport such as jeepneys, to support the workers who need to go to work amid the threat of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, James Agustin reported that commuters formed long lines early in the morning along Commonwealth Avenue, while they waited for buses to arrive.

With their umbrellas, commuters tried to chase every bus that passed by in the hopes of getting a ride.

A report of Mai Bermudez said commuters ignored the rain and walked to the MRT North Avenue Station for more than an hour.

Meanwhile at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), stranded passengers spent the night at the NAIA Expressway, and took shelter under the elevated road.

Passengers who have no incoming flights stayed outside Terminal 3, according to a separate report of Bam Alegre.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Metrobase’s Fe Carinan said in an interview on Dobol B sa News TV some part of EDSA experienced slow traffic around 8:30 a.m.

On southbound lanes, slow traffic was observed in areas of Roosevelt-Muñoz, Kamuning flyover to Guadalupe, and Buendia.

Meanwhile, on northbound lanes, motorists encountered slow traffic in Magallanes Flyover, Kalayaan to Guadalupe, Whiteplains, Santolan to Cubao, and Roosevelt-Muñoz areas. —LBG, GMA News
