CCTV cameras, speaker system has barangay watching, scolding residents amid quarantine

Security cameras in Barangay Matandang Balara, Quezon City are being used by local officials to enforce health protocols amid the coronavirus pandemic.

According to JP Soriano’s report on “24 Oras” on Thursday, over 100 CCTV cameras are used by barangay officials to monitor residents’ adherence to social distancing measures as well as the mandatory wearing of face masks.

Local authorities also installed a public announcement system to communicate with residents from the control room of the CCTVs.

“‘Pag nakadalawang suway na kami sa CCTV at sa public address namin, ‘di sumusunod, papupuntahan na po namin ng BPSO (Barangay Public Safety Officer) ‘yan para kunin at dalahin dito sa barangay,” a barangay official said.

On Tuesday, over 50 residents were summoned over repeated violations of health protocols.

They were ordered to plant vegetables as a form of community service.

Meanwhile, authorities also strictly enforced health protocols at the Kamuning Market.

An official checks the body temperature and quarantine passes of residents before allowing them to shop.

Quezon City has recorded 9,140 COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday morning. -NB, GMA News
