A police officer allegedly involved in robbery-extortion activity was arrested by operatives of the Philippine National Police-Integrity Monitoring Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG) in front of a mall in Quezon City on Thursday.

Police on Friday identified the accused as Police Staff Sergeant Clarissa Dela Cruz, who is assigned at the National Capital Region Police Office's Regional Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit.

According to PNP-IMEG director Police Brigadier General Ronald Lee, the cop was supposedly involved in supplying face shields to online sellers amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

A certain Mrs. Alla was one of her online sellers who acted as go-between with other buyers. Police said one Gilbert Ardona and a certain Ms. Pandapatan allegedly failed to pay the amount agreed on during an online transaction.

Dela Cruz then asked for the assistance of the Novaliches police and nabbed the three people identified above on August 19 for estafa cases. However, Dela Cruz allegedly did not pursue the filing of the case and, instead, demanded money worth P40,000 to P50,000 from the three.

Dela Cruz was also accused of bringing Alla to her residence while waiting for the P10,000 in exchange for Alla's release.

Seized from the cop were some boodle money, two pieces of P500, one cellular phone and a Mio motorcycle.

The suspect was brought to the PNP-IMEG headquarters in Camp Crame for filing of appropriate charges. —LBG, GMA News
