San Juan bans spitting, vomiting, sneezing in public amid COVID-19 pandemic

The City Government of San Juan has banned spitting, vomiting, urinating, defecating, and spitting without a face mask in public amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

According to Marisol Abdurahman’s report on “24 Oras,” violators will be fined P500 for the first offense, P2,000 for the second offense, and P5,000 as well as a seminar for the third offense.

“’Yun na nga ang mismong iniiwasan natin. ‘Yung body fluids na galing sa isang tao na posibleng infected ng COVID-19,” San Juan Mayor Francis Zamora said.

Though coughing and sneezing are involuntary actions and unavoidable, Zamora said the residents must be wearing face masks when doing so.

“If it's uncontrollable at dapat talaga ay takpan natin ang ating mga bibig at ilong,” the mayor said.

The ordinance will be implemented starting Saturday, September 6. Body cameras will also be attached to personnel who will be implementing the ban.

“Makakatulong para sa mas maayos na implementasyon ng ating mga ordinansa. Para wala nang room for interpretation, no? Kung totoo bang nagkasala o hindi,” Zamora said. -Joahna Lei Casilao/MDM, GMA News
