P800K worth of marijuana confiscated by Customs; claimant arrested

Some P800,000 worth of high grade marijuana were confiscated and the parcel's claimant was arrested by authorities in Pasay City recently, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) said.

Personnel of the BOC-NAIA, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the NAIA Inter-Agency Task Force nabbed the claimant identified as Kevin Dela Cruz y Quimpo in controlled delivery operations at a warehouse.

Authorities said the parcel, which was declared as "4m kids labs remote control detector robot kit" yielded 500 grams of high grade marijuana estimated to be worth P808,000.

The parcel was shipped by a firm named Toynk Toys from Markham, Canada.

Customs personnel subjected the package to X-ray scanning and was suspected to have dangerous drugs.

A BOC-NAIA Customs examiner then conducted a 100% physical examination and found the marijuana.

This was confirmed by tests conducted by the Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force (CAIDTF) and the PDEA.

The parcel was then turned over to PDEA, and controlled delivery operations were conducted with BOC CAIDTF and NAIA Inter-Agency Task Force.

The suspect may face charges of violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 in relation to the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act. —KG, GMA News
