Man killed, another hurt in Tondo 'drunk cop' shooting incident —MPD

A man died while another was hurt when a policeman allegedly fired shots at them in Tondo, Manila in the wee hours of Friday.

The Manila Police District identified the suspect as Patrolman Alvin Santos, who is assigned at the Sta Cruz Police Station 3.

An initial police investigation showed the victims Joseph Marga and Mark Lester Quiñones, as well as one Nelson Delos Santos, were on their way home when they encountered a "drunk cop" in Barangay 106.

Santos allegedly told the victims that he would arrest them. Marga explained to the cop that he is residing in that area.

The suspect supposedly did not like the response of the victim so he shot Marga and Quiñones multiple times, police said.

Residents in the area attacked the cop, who was able to escape but left his PNP-issued firearm, according to the MPD.

Police were able to recover the policeman's 9MM Berreta, a magazine loaded with 12 ammunition and two empty cartridges.

Marga was declared dead on arrival at Tondo Medical Center, while Quiñones is still under medical treatment in the same hospital for his injuries.

A pursuit operation is ongoing to arrest the suspect. —LBG, GMA News
