MMDA implements stop-and-go scheme in Balintawak due to heavy traffic

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) implemented a stop-and-go traffic scheme along EDSA-Balintawag on Friday due to heavy traffic.

“Three lanes lang ‘yan, kinuha ng busway ‘yong isa. Pangalawa, ‘yong paakyat galing A. Bonifacio. ‘Pag nag-join ‘yan, kakain ng space dito sa main artery. Hindi lang po mga kotse dumadaan diyan pati mga truck, ang lalaki,” MMDA traffic operations chief Bong Nebrija said in Saleema Refran’s report on “24 Oras.”

“Ang next conflict ‘yong pababa naman ng A. Bonifacio and then ’yong paakyat galign NLEx. Hindi lang ‘yan, dinagdagan pa tayo noong galing Quirino Highway at tsaka Novaliches,” he added.

The MMDA also opened the service road for motorists bound for the North Luzon Expressway.

With this, the MMDA reminded motorists to expect heavy traffic in December despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moreover, Nebrija said the number coding scheme and truck ban remained lifted.

“’Yong lifting ng coding at tsaka ng truck ban, this is somehow an incentive to the businesses and industries na hindi nag-operate during the ECQ na ngayon pa lang nakaka-recover,” he said.

"Yung Metro Manila Council naman ang nagde-decide diyan if and when it is necessary to bring it back, they will. But for now, hindi pa muna,” he added. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/DVM, GMA News
