Taguig reminds citizens of health protocols after 2 elderly got COVID

Despite being able to "stabilize" COVID-19 cases in the city, the local government of Taguig  has reminded its citizens to observe minimum health protocols this Christmas season after two elderly residents caught the virus recently.

On Wednesday, Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano said that COVID cases in the city were stabilizing, with over 41 additional daily reported infections.

“Naka-mask at face shield man ang mukha ng Pasko ngayong taon, hindi po ito hadlang para ating ipakita ang pagmamahal sa ating kapwa,” Cayetano said in his weekly city report.

“Sa ating pag-iingat at pagsunod sa health protocols, ating naipapakita ang pagmamahal natin sa ating pamilya,” he added.

Cayatano pointed out that senior citizens should be protected because they are most vulnerable to COVID.

He said the 66-year-old male patient from Ibayo could have contracted the disease from the daily supervision of his UV Express operations at the San Joaquin terminal or from a superstore in the area. The man later infected his son and daughter-in-law.

Likewise, the mayor added that the other case is a 69-year-old male from Pinagsama who watched over his diabetic wife at a hospital.

The man and three other people from his household also tested positive for COVID-19.

Taguig City recorded a total of 9,890 cases. Of these, 42 are active cases. At least  four active cases were reported per 100,000 people, the mayor said.

“We remain to be among the lowest in Metro Manila. National Capital Region's active cases per 100,000 population is at 19,” he said adding that the city’s recovery rate is at 98.47 percent, with a total of 9,739 recoveries.

A total of 109 COVID-related deaths were recorded in the city, including the seven deaths reported this week. He said the city’s case fatality rate is at 1.10%, which is still less than half of Metro Manila’s 2.93 percent.

“Our attack rate is at 1 percent, more than 0.03% from last week’s attack rate,” he added, noting that this was still lower than the attack rate for Metro Manila for the same period which is at 1.06 percent. —LBG, GMA News
