Cop allegedly involved in gunrunning activities arrested

A police officer allegedly involved in a gunrunning syndicate was arrested in Parañaque City over the weekend, the Philippine National Police said.

The PNP identified the accused cop as Police Staff Sergeant Reynolfo Ursulum, 50, who is assigned at the Regional Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit of the Central Visayas police.

Operatives from the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group nabbed the suspect during an entrapment operation last Saturday evening in front of a restaurant along Doña Soledad Avenue.

Ursulum's alleged cohort, Carvyn Parcon, 21, was also arrested during the operation.

Authorities were able to seize four Bushmaster M4A1 carbines, a PNP-issued Taurus 9mm pistol, magazine assemblies with live ammunition, ATM and identification cards, and a sports utility vehicle with plate number JUN 660 from the suspects.

Initial probe indicated that the firearms were from Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

The PNP also said Ursulum's group was supposedly operating across Metro Manila. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KG, GMA News
