The Pasig City Government's City Transport Development and Management Office on Saturday said bikers need not wear face shields when biking in the city.

“Bikers are exempted from wearing face shield while biking in Pasig,” it said in a Facebook post.

“Evidence shows and consultation among bikers reveals that biking while wearing a face shield is dangerous,” jt added.

The agency pointed out that bikers may have difficulty breathing and have their view obstructed when wearing a face shield.

“Meanwhile, baking naturaly isolates riders from other commuters,” it said.

On Tuesday, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque announced that the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) decided to make wearing of face masks and face shields mandatory when people go out of their residences.

Previously, the government only required the wearing of face shields inside establishments and in public transportation vehicles.

The IATF said government agencies will come up with guidelines on the proper use of face shields, including possible exemptions to the order.
