Cop accused of extortion arrested in Parañaque City —PNP


A personnel from the Philippine National Police - Highway Patrol Group was arrested during an entrapment operation in Parañaque City on Thursday allegedly for extortion activities.

Authorities on Friday identified the accused cop as Police Staff Sergeant Marlon De Dios Salim who was assigned at the South Luzon Expressway sub-office.

According to PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group chief Police Colonel Thomas Frias, Salim allegedly demanded P5,000 from a complainant in settling the latter's involvement in a vehicular accident that transpired last January 26 along Skyway Northbound in Barangay San Martin De Porres.

He also received P2,000 marked money from the complainant during the entrapment operation, authorities said.

A 9MM caliber, two 9MM magazines, one cellular phone and two P1,000 bills were seized from Salim, police said.

Salim is now under the custody of IMEG for proper documentation while preparing for appropriate criminal and admin charges that will be filed against him. —LBG, GMA News
