MRT3 to suspend operations on Holy Week for maintenance works

The Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT3) management on Tuesday announced it will be suspending operations during the Holy Week, to make way for the scheduled maintenance and rehabilitation works in the railway line.

In an advisory, MRT3 said it will halt operations from March 30, Holy Tuesday, until April 4, Easter Sunday.

“Kabilang sa mga aktibidad na isasagawa sa temporary shutdown ay ang pagpapalit ng mga railway turnout sa depot, pagpapalit ng mga point machine, at paglalagay ng CCTV units,” it said.

[Among the activities to be conducted are the temporary shutdown and replacement of railway turnout at the depot, replacement of point machine, and installation of CCTV units.]

The MRT3 management explained that the turnouts are used to allow a train to transfer from one rail track to another.

A point machine, meanwhile, is used to control the operation of railway turnouts from the MRT3 Control Center.

“Mahalagang bahagi ang mga ito ng isang railway system para maging maayos ang railway signaling at pagpapatakbo ng mga tren,” the MRT3 management said.
