3 arrested for allegedly selling fake P1,000 bills in Taguig City

Three persons were arrested in Taguig City for allegedly selling fake one thousand peso bills, Marisol Abdhuraman reported on State of the Nation on Monday.

Operatives of the Philippine National Police-CIDG in the National Capital Region with representatives of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas confiscated fake one thousand peso bills in two separate operations.

The first operation was conducted at a gasoline station in Taguig City around 11 a.m. on Sunday that resulted to the arrest suspects selling fake bills to an undercover agent who was the poseur buyer.

At least 100 pieces of fake one thousand bills were seized by the operatives from suspects identified as Sarah Silongan and Fahad Wagiya, who identified the source of the fake bills.

A follow up operation was then conducted outside a subdivision in Barangay Hagonoy where a suspect identified as Norbin Panderaya was nabbed and 149 pieces of fake one thousand peso bills.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Wilfredo Fabros Jr., CIDG-NCR Intel chief, said the personnel from Bangko Sentral verified that the bills were indeed counterfeit.

The fake one thousand peso bills are sold for P350 each.

The suspects declined to issue a statement but they told authorities that they got involved in the modus because of the limited source of income amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fabros said the suspects will face charges related to Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code in relation to illegal possession and use of false treasury or bank notes. -- BAP, GMA News
