Cameraman mauled while taking video of Caloocan resort guests

A television cameraman sustained bruises after taking a video of several visitors swimming at a pool in a Caloocan resort that was shut down for operating amid the modified enhanced community quarantine.

In Saleema Refran's report over "24 Oras," Arnel Tugade, cameraman of a television station, said about three resort visitors ganged up and attacked him while holding his equipment.

"As I zoomed out my lens, that's when I saw these men started walking towards me and held my camera. Then, they jabbed me," Tugade, whose forehead and nose were covered in bandages, said in Filipino.

Dennis Cawigan, one of the suspects, claimed that Tugade hit his brother using the camera. Tugade denied this allegation. Three suspects who attacked Tugade were already detained, the report said.

Earlier, Caloocan Mayor Oscar Malapitan said he ordered the closure of Gubat sa Ciudad resort for accommodating guests during Mother's Day.

He said he will also direct the revocation of the resort's permit for violating health protocols.

The mayor also said they will file charges against the owners of the resort.

According to the Philippine National Police, the barangay chairman who has jurisdiction over the area could also face complaints. —Consuelo Marquez/LDF, GMA News
