PGH doctors revived baby after heartbeat stopped amid blaze

Philippine General Hospital (PGH) doctors revived a two-month-old baby whose heart stopped beating while part of the hospital was on fire.

In Athena Imperial's report on 24 Oras, Jane Pardillo, the infant's mother, could not hold back her tears after learning that her baby, who has heart complications, is still at the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) while the fire is ongoing last Sunday.

Newborn babies are brought to the NICU if they have health problems.

Pardillo said she was crushed because she has not seen her baby for a long time.

"Since she is in the NICU, I haven't talked to her personally or even held her," Pardillo said in Filipino.

When the baby's heart stopped, Pardillo said doctors were very careful to prepare the ward where the child will be transferred.

"Before she will be transferred, the ward should be ready. They can't just transfer her promptly because she needs the ventilator and incubator," Pardillo said while wiping the tears streaming down her face.

Pardillo said she was thankful for the doctors for reviving her baby.

A fire broke out at the operating room sanitization area at the Central Block Building of PGH at 12:58 a.m. The blaze reached until third alarm and was put out after more than four hours.
