COVID-19 vaccinations in NCR push through despite foul weather

Despite the foul weather, people still lined up in various vaccination sites in Metro Manila on Wednesday to get inoculated against COVID-19, according to Balitanghali reports.

One of these vaccination sites was at San Andres Sports Complex in Manila, where 2,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine were allocated.

A report by Super Radyo dzBB's Isa Avendaño-Umali said some had been in line for hours, some since Tuesday night, despite the flood and rain caused by enhanced southwest monsoon.

People also fell in line early at the Gat Andres Bonifacio Medical Center, the same report said. A long queue was also seen at the Ospital ng Tondo.

Some of those who were in line said they wanted to get vaccinated immediately because they were afraid of the more transmissible Delta variant of the coronavirus.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno said 15,096 individuals were vaccinated, including 9,471 who received their second dose, as of 10:50 a.m.

Roads were flooded in Manila following heavy rains, particularly in Roxas Buolevard where vehicles cautiously slowed down. UN Avenue and TM Kalaw were also flooded.

People also stayed in line in vaccination sites despite rains in Mandaluyong City. Many fell in line as early as 6 a.m. at the Mega Vaccination site outside the city hall.

According to latest data from the city government, 236,466 individuals have received their first dose while 121,569 have completed their second dose.

Meanwhile, people had to go through the flood at the Maysilo Circle after their vaccination. Vehicles had difficulty passing through the roads, resulting in heavy traffic.

Boni Avenue was likewise flooded.

The vaccination with the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) single doses also pushed through in Caloocan City despite rains.

Bgy. 132 was given 700 Johnson & Johnson doses from the 10,000 doses allocated for the entire Caloocan, according to a Balitanghali report by Ian Cruz. Senior citizens were the priorities.

Most of the vaccinees reported no side effects after taking their shots.

The vaccination will continue until Wednesday afternoon. --KBK, GMA News
