More than 70% Manila folk receive first dose of COVID-19 vaccines —Mayor Isko

More than 70% eligible residents in Manila received the first dose of vaccines versus COVID-19  as the city continues to join the race for herd immunity in its population, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno said Tuesday.

In his Facebook livestream, Moreno said this means the majority of the eligible population have added protection against the severe respiratory ailment, which has infected 68,402 Manila residents.

"76.77% of target qualified individuals already got the first dose," he said.

Moreno said 43% or 467,234 of the 817,665 Manila residents were already fully vaccinated versus COVID-19.

In total, Manila administered a total of 1,246,261 doses of vaccines since it launched its local inoculation program in March.

President Rodrigo Duterte had called the attention of some local government units that let their constituents wait in line, under the rain, at vaccination centers.

But in a "24 Oras" report, the mayor said he is proud of his residents who lined up despite the bad weather.

"Well, that's a good observation but I'm grateful. I'm proud of mga batang Maynila bagama't nagbabaha talaga ay talagang 'yong kagustuhan nilang maproteksiyunan," he said.

As of July 27, the city registered  68,402 total COVID-19 cases, including 607 active cases, 1,275 deaths, and 66,520 fatalities.—LDF, GMA News
