Dirty, roach-infested taho factory ordered shut down

The Quezon City Government has closed down a dirty, cockroach-infested taho factory in Commonwealth, Quezon City.

According to Mariz Umali’s report on “24 Oras,” operatives of the QC Task Force Displina and police authorities visited the factory after they received reports from concerned citizens about black smoke emitting from the establishment.

Authorities were greeted with dirty buckets and rusty equipment.

The water used to make the taho was black in color. Parts of the cleaning equipment would also sometimes come in contact with the water.

Cockroaches were also roaming around the factory.

[It is unacceptable for cleanliness to be lacking. The order inside the factory was not enough. It can’t pass. We can really say that the facility is dirty.]

Only the owner’s relative was found in the factory. She pleaded with authorities to keep the factory open for now.

‘yung may-ari ng taho,” Lordna Madriaga said.

[Please, at least let us cook the beans. They're really expensive. So they can help us, because my cousin, the owner, is sick.]

[Let the beans be cooked, and then we'll close it down tomorrow. We won't operate until it's really clean.]

The Task Force Disiplina said they had previously ordered the closure of the factory a few nights ago, but it continued to operate.

Authorities also found that the factory has no permit to operate as well nor a sanitation permit. — Joahna Lei Casilao/BM, GMA News
