617 NCR families affected by granular lockdowns –DILG

At least 617 families were affected by ongoing granular lockdowns in the National Capital Region, the Department of the Interior and Local Government said on Monday.

During the Laging Handa public briefing, DILG spokesperson Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said 139 areas were under granular lockdowns as of October 15.

Malaya noted a downward trend in the number of locked down areas, which was at 303 on October 1.

At least 34 areas in Manila were under a granular lockdown, 30 in Quezon City, 27 in Pateros, and 10 in Las Piñas.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development delivered 30,275 food packs to different local government units in the NCR, according to Malaya.

Metro Manila Council (MMC) head and Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez earlier said the presence of one COVID-19 case was enough reason to lock down a house or a condominium floor.

To impose a lockdown on an entire street, he said there should be at least two COVID-19 cases.

Granular lockdowns are micro-level quarantines for areas classified as "critical zones" by the local government unit (LGU).

According to officials, granular lockdowns could be implemented on a house, compound, street, or building with high cases of infections. — DVM, GMA News
