NCR areas under granular lockdown down to 71 —PNP

From 83, the number of areas in the National Capital Region under granular lockdown has declined to 71 as of Monday, data from the Philippine National Police (PNP) showed on Tuesday.

In an update, the PNP said these areas under granular lockdown are reported in 46 barangays.

These areas included 34 houses, 20 residential buildings, 11 subdivisions or villages, and a residential building floor.

According to the PNP Public Information Office, local government units (LGUs) will decide on imposing and lifting granular lockdowns.

To ensure security and adherence to minimum health standards, the PNP has deployed 194 personnel and 187 force multipliers to the concerned areas.

Metro Manila Council (MMC) head and Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez earlier said the presence of one COVID-19 case is enough to impose a lockdown on a house or a condominium floor.

To impose a lockdown on an entire street, he said there should be at least two COVID-19 cases.

Granular lockdowns are micro-level quarantine for areas classified as "critical zones" by the local government unit (LGU).

According to officials, granular lockdowns could be implemented on a house, compound, street or building with high cases of infections. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
