MPD accosts quarantine violators at North Cemetery ahead of Undas

The Manila Police District on Monday said at least 22 quarantine violators were accosted at the North Cemetery ahead of Undas or All Saints' and Souls' Day.

At the Laging Handa public briefing, MPD chief Brigadier General Leo Francisco said around 25,000 visitors were recorded in the cemetery on Sunday and 15,000 on Saturday.

“Kahapon sa North Cemetery, mayroon tayong 22 na in-accost at sinampahan natin ng kaukulang reklamo,” he said.

(Yesterday at the North Cemetery, we accosted 22 people and we filed complaints against them.)

Francisco said most of them disregarded the wearing of face masks. Under a city ordinance, violators will face complaints at their third offense.

Some Filipinos trooped to cemeteries over the weekend and early on Monday, days before these are closed for All Saints' Day (Undas).

Earlier, the Inter-Agency Task Force passed a resolution ordering the closure of all cemeteries from October 29 to November 2 to minimize the risk of superspreader events during Undas.

The public may visit cemeteries, memorial parks, and columbaria only before October 29 or after November 2.

During these allowable visits, visitors must be limited to 10 persons per group, and the venue must only allow 30% of capacity, though this can be raised to 50% if the local government unit authorizes it.—AOL, GMA News
