(Update) Ex-PNP chief appointed to security council


MANILA, Philippines - Former Philippine National Police chief Avelino Razon Jr became the latest retired general to receive a plum post in government, this time as deputy director of the National Security Council (NSC). Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita announced Razon’s appointment Wednesday. Razon retired last September 28 as PNP chief after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56. Ermita said Razon replaced Victor Mayo whom he said succumbed to heart attack last month. Razon, a member of PMA Class 1974, had served twice as chief of then Western Police District Office (now Manila Police District) before becoming the director of the National Capital Region Police Office. Ermita also announced the transfer of retired police official Arturo Lomibao, also a former PNP chief, from the Office of the National Security Adviser to the Office of the President, where he is named undersecretary. Lomibao is the head of the National Counter Terrorism Action Group (Nactag), which was formed in November 2008 and placed under the NSA. Also appointed were former Education assistant secretary Camilio Miguel Montesa as assistant secretary of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, and former Interior and Local Government director for legal services, lawyer Genaro Jose Emetrio Moreno Jr as assistant secretary of the DILG. - GMANews.TV
