SC lifts 5-strike rule for Bar exam takers starting next year

Law graduates will now have more chances of becoming a lawyer no matter how many times they have failed the Bar examinations in the past.

 

In a media briiefing at the Supreme Court, Public Information Office chief and spokesman Theodore Te said the high court has decided to lift the "five-strike rule" for examinees starting next year.

 

The high court started implementing the five-strike rule in 2005, in which examinees who have flunked the exam five times will no longer be allowed to take the exam any further.

 

This year's Bar Exam will be held during the four Sundays of October at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. Gates along España will open at 5 a.m. and 12 noon, and close 30 minutes before the given examination time, the SC earlier said.

 

Last year, the Bar examinations were also conducted during the four Sundays of October. Of the 5,686 admitted to take the Bar, only 5,343 ended up completing the examinations.

 

An Ateneo Law School graduate, Ignatius Ingles, topped last year's Bar Exams, with a grade of 85.64 percent.

 

The Bar exams are believed to be the most difficult among licensure examinations. —KG, GMA News
