After check-up at PNP hospital, doc says Napoles’ cyst not life-threatening

(Updated 12:14 p.m.) Contrary to her lawyer's claim, alleged pork scam queen Janet Lim-Napoles does not have an ovarian cyst. She has a cyst in the uterus, however, and it is not life-threatening.

"'Yung bukol po na nakita noon ay hindi namin nakita ngayon… Initially, ang impression doon ay right ovarian cyst, ngayon naman may bukol pero hindi naman sa ovary, sa may uterus naman," Philippine National Police Health Services director Chief Supt. Alejandro Advincula told reporters Wednesday.

"Hindi alarming at this point in time (ang sakit niya)," he added.

For her part, PNP-General Hospital OB-gynecologist Chief Inspector Michelle Daguno noted: "Hindi po siya life threatening at this point."

Napoles was brought to the PNP General Hospital
Wednesday morning for a check-up, including a transvaginal ultrasound, blood tests, and normal ultrasound.

"More or less, si Mrs. Napoles ay nabigyan na po siya ng idea sa result ng transvaginal ultrasound result. Hindi po siya i-coconfine. As a matter of fact, siya ay po ay ibabalik na sa [Fort Sto. Domingo in Sta. Rosa, Laguna]," Advincula said.

The trader is currently detained at Fort Sto. Domingo in Sta. Rosa, Laguna for a case of serious illegal detention, which is a non-bailable offense.

Napoles is at the center of the P10-billion pork barrel scam controversy. Through her NGOs, Napoles allegedly funneled lawmakers' Priority Development Assistance Fund, commonly known as pork barrel, to ghost projects.

During the examination, Napoles went through a complete medical check which includes blood tests, transvaginal ultrasound and pap smear, as requested by her attending physician.

The doctors also attended to Napoles' dental problem and aching index finger.

Last week, Napoles asked the Makati Regional Trial Court for a comprehensive medical check-up for her ovarian tumor and, if necessary, put her under hospital arrest.

On Monday, the court allowed Napoles to undergo transvaginal ultrasound and other medical tests on Wednesday, February 26.

Judge Elmo Alameda of Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 150 ordered the Philippine National Police Regional Office 4-A, which has custody over Napoles, to transfer her from her detention cell in Fort Sto. Domingo in Laguna to Camp Crame General Hospital in Quezon City.

To undergo another check-up on her uterus tumor, Napoles needs to secure a separate court order, Advincula said. —KG/LBG/HS, GMA News
