Enrile surrenders, may be confined in hospital

Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile on Friday evening completed the booking process and took medicine for a variety of health conditions, the Philippine National Police said.

Enrile earlier went to Camp Crame to voluntarily turn himself in after the Sandiganbayan Third Division issued a warrant for his arrest on plunder and graft charges in connection with the pork barrel scam.

The Senate Minority Leader became the third incumbent senator to be placed under PNP custody for plunder raps because of alleged involvement in the massive fraud.

The others already detained are Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon Revilla Jr.

PNP spokesman Chief Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac said Enrile's blood pressure was 200 over 90 and his pulse rate was 84, and there was a "murmur" or abnormal heart sound detected.

"He is taking medicine," Sindac said in a news conference aired on dzBB.

Sindac said the medicines were for a range of conditions including hypertension, diabetes, and anemia. He added that Enrile also took multivitamins.

The PNP spokesperson said Enrile's "temporary hospital confinement was recommended... due to his medical condition."

Sindac also said that at the request of Enrile's family, no photo would be released. —Joel Locsin/NB, GMA News
