Start of registration for SK polls to push through Saturday

Despite the heavy rainfall in some parts of Luzon and Visayas due to Tropical Storm Mario (Fung-Wong) and southwest monsoon on Friday, the start of the registration for the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections will push through on September 20.

"No announcement yet on the suspension of the start of the SK registration tomorrow," said Commission on Election (Comelec) spokesman James Jimenez on Friday. "Let us wait on the announcement from the Comelec on this matter."

The nationwide registration period will be from September 20 to September 29.

Jimenez said registration can be done online.

"You can go to http://iRehistro.com  to either DOWNLOAD #VoterReg2014 forms or (2) ACCOMPLISH forms online. Submit na lang pag may-pasok na," he announced on his Twitter account.

Government work was suspended in affected areas Friday due to floods.

But based on Comelec Resolution 9853, registrants are still required to personally go to a local Comelec office for biometrics capture to complete the filing process.

The Election Registration Board (ERB) will also have to approve an application on the scheduled date for the next ERB hearing.

Qualified to register are Filipino citizens who are at least 15 years old but below 18 years of age on election day, and are actually residing in the barangay for at least six months on election day.

Aside from the accomplished application form, SK applicants are required to present any of the following documents: Certificate of Live Birth; Baptismal Certificate; School records; or any other document that will establish his identity and other qualifications, except a Community Tax Certificate and a certification of barangay official. -- Trisha Macas/KBK, GMA News
