‘Oplan Maligno’ underway to discredit Roxas, boost VP Binay's ratings, Erice warns

Caloocan Rep. Edgar Erice on Saturday said Oplan Maligno — campaign to bolster Vice President Jejomar Binay's political standing — is underway.

According to a report in GMA's “24 Oras” on Saturday, Erice said Binay's camp is behind Oplan Maligno. The claim comes on the heels of a claim made by Binay allies that a so-called "Oplan Stop Nognog in 2016" has been launched to discredit the vice president who plans to run for president in 2016.

“Pinondohan ng milyon-milyong piso upang una ay iarrest yung pagbaba ng survey ni Vice President Binay,” Erice said.

Erice noted that among the goals of the supposed Oplan Maligno is to show more pro-Binay infomercials on TV.

He said that Oplan Maligno also aims to drag Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II into the mess surrounding allegations of corruption that Binay's critics have hurled against the vice president.

He added that the malicious campaign will attempt to revive the issues of corruption in the Priority Development Assistance Fund and Disbursement Acceleration Program to attack Aquino administration.

Aside from this, it also aims to portray the Senate blue ribbon subcommittee investigating allegations of corruption in Makati City as a kangaroo court.

Erice declined to name his source, however.

Meanwhile, United Nationalist Alliance interim president and Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco said Erice should vent in the proper forum.

“Ang mahalaga dito ay 'yung patuloy na pagganap ni VP sa kanyang katungkulan. Lahat ng allegations nila there is a proper forum and the proper forum is the Office of the Ombudsman,” Tiangco said. — Andrei Medina/JDS, GMA News
